Unlike most workshops and conferences, Gravity in the Lab has an ever-changing structure. By avoiding strict scheduling, the aim is to create a more dynamic and interactive workplace, allowing the participants to utilise their time more effectively. The only regular meetings occur in the morning and from there the schedule for the day is decided as a group depending on the participants' common interests.
Due to the informality of the programme, participants are encouraged to prepare a talk on their research or on a topic of interest. If a topic in particular is considered interesting for (and by) the great majority then a session of talks may be organised for either the same day or the following, depending on the preparation required for the speakers. Otherwise, gatherings of smaller groups may take place to allow for discussions on their common research interests; but of course, everyone is welcome to attend regardless of expertise on the subject at hand.
Once the plan for the day has been decided, the schedule is made available on the hallway blackboard for all of the participants so that anyone who is interested can attend. Social events are also noted on these blackboards.
At the end of the workshop, a concluding meeting will take place to address the achievements and open problems discussed. The participants have an opportunity to discuss what is in the immediate and extended future for current research, and outline what may be achieved by the next years' Gravity in the Lab workshop.
